Types of Community Gardens
Individual Plot or “Allotment Gardens” offer plots of various sizes for individuals, families, or groups to “claim” for free, or at minimal cost on a seasonal basis. In Dubuque they include:
Agricultural Education Centers have permanent infrastructure and staff dedicated in some capacity to facilitating educational experiences in their gardens with community members, school, and community groups. In Dubuque they include:
Communal Gardens are spaces where community members come together to share a particular garden plot. Often their purpose is to supply food to give to neighbors, pantries, and free meal sites, or simply to provide an educational and recreational space. In Dubuque they include:
